If you're reading this, something about your tax situation has you worried. That's fair — the IRS is intimidating until you know how the rules actually work. I'm Darrin Mish, a Tampa tax attorney. I've handled cases like yours for 32 years. Let me walk you through it.

The IRS and the government as a whole is one organization that most of us hope we could trust with our personal information. However, that trust is surely beginning to waver for many following numerous reports of break-ins to government databases and information. The government and IRS agents seem to not know how to keep things secure.

The massive hack on the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) was yet another sign that there is something very wrong with the security systems in the United States government. It is believed to have been an attack by Chinese hackers, and the amount of information they have had access to is still unknown.

Worst of all, it seems that the hackers had access to the files that they were browsing through for a period of a year or more. That was when they were finally noticed and the hack was made public.

Cyber security experts tell us that as many as 90% of hacks could be prevented by using basic security measures such as encrypting data. However, it seems that the government doesn’t even do this much when they are in control of so much information. It is a gaping hole in security that has plenty of people worried inside the government and out.
