When a surgeon hides money in a divorce, it’s not beyond human nature! However, when the penalty is a 95 year sentence, it makes one wonder if the punishment actually fits the crime. It’s normal to think of tax evasion occurring when someone tries to cheat the IRS. However, there are those occasions when it results from someone trying to cheat another person.

A 67-year old plastic surgeon in Anchorage, Alaska got divorced and decided not to share any money with his wife. He chose instead to hide his money.

It must have been a substantial amount because plastic surgeons do quite well in their practice. Prosecutors caught him and after seven days in trial, he was convicted on three counts of fraud and four counts of tax evasion. Dr. Brandner’s, the convicted plastic surgeon, life began to fall apart when his wife filed for divorce in 2007.

Before she could take claim assets, he moved to hide millions of dollars. In a series of moves which included opening up offshore bank accounts, he laid the conditions for his own demise. Getting the professional tax help one needs is always the smart and safe way to go.
