Life is strange and seems to throw a curve at every opportunity. We often think of certain individuals, by their occupation, as having enough sense and character to do what’s right in the world. However, that’s not always the case.
Often, when a person has superior knowledge, they can be tempted to use that knowledge in a negative way. They arrive at a point where they assume that they are beyond reproach—above the law. Actually, it’s beyond assumption, and they’re convinced that they’re untouchable.
So it was with a Wichita attorney who was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison for tax evasion. Eldon Boisseau’s conviction was the result of not having paid taxes from 1998 through 2000, 2002 through 2005, and 2007 through 2009. He was convicted on one count of tax evasion. No doubt, it probably seems that his sentencing was harsh with respect to the fact that millions of people choose not to pay their taxes each year.
Why does one person get the books throw at them while others seem to get off with far lighter sentences? The smart and safe thing to do is to work with a competent tax attorney to avoid costly mistakes and penalties.
