IRS to Issue New Rules for Political Groups

Last week, the IRS announced that its draft regulations on political non-profit groups could be released by June.  But these rules are unlikely to be effective before the next election in 2016.  Such rules are necessary because at this point, it is unclear how much these tax-exempt groups could spend on election campaigns or even what constitutes ‘political’ activity.
