You might as well get used to the fact that you’re going to be required to be on top of your taxes, regardless of where the IRS is in the process. This information was released by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) this past year. That’s not good news for consumers who may already be under the gun for not having paid back taxes. There may be as much as $9 billion adjustments that need to posted properly. This means that you have to seriously keep good records in case you’re audited. The best defense could also be hiring a qualified tax attorney to keep an eye on your IRS affairs.
You soon begin to realize that the burden of proof will be on you to make your case. You might also be surprised to find out that information the IRS isn’t held accountable for information that it provides!
