Some states initially refused to comply with the new rules. Their concern was based on the idea that the feds might create a national database of on Americans. Other states complained there would be high administrative costs to fully implement the system, which would result in an increase in air travel fees that would be passed on to drivers.

With respect to what’s happening in the world, it only seems that clamping down on the ability to identify people will only heighten. States like Minnesota, New Hampshire and Louisiana may have already stepped in front of the pack to require their citizens to start using passports to board domestic flights.
