www.dailyprogress.com — The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office responded this weekend to an unfounded report of a person with a gun in the 14600 block of Carrico Mills Road only to find it was a “swatting” hoax.
According to the FBI, individuals who engage in this fraudulent activity use technology to make it appear that an emergency call is coming from the victim’s home. Swatting is sometimes done for revenge, and other times as a prank.
