A Logansport accounting and tax preparation service was raided by agents from the Internal Revenue Service’s criminal investigation division on Wednesday, August 12, with computers and boxes removed from the premises.

The 90-minute raid took place at the 522 North St. address of Picardo’s Accounting, which was closed at the time. The firm’s owner, Mauro Picardo, had been instructed by the IRS at approximately 10:30 that morning to unlock the building.

Using warrants that were presented to Picardo, agents arrived and put the computers and files in unmarked SUV’s before driving away.

Picardo, who opened his business four years ago, runs the company with a partner and brings on six staffers during tax season. He stated that he had over 2,000 clients, but that he had no inkling of any displeasure on their part that would have triggered a criminal complaint.

Picardo indicated that he wasn’t charged with any crime, and that he was simply dumbfounded about the investigation. He also noted that the IRS agents were simply following policy in regard to the complaint that was made.

Neither IRS agents nor Picardo’s attorney, James Knight, would comment on the pending investigation.
