As reported by North Carolina CBS affiliate WFMY-TV News 2<\/a>, a former employee of the Internal Revenue Service, Greensboro IRS Officer Henti Lucian Baird, was sentenced to a 43-month prison stint after it was learned that he purposely did not pay taxes to the IRS for a side consulting business over a period of 16 years from 1989 to 2014. Instead, Baird used his IRS training to defraud the government by funneling the extra income to bank accounts that were not in his name: He submitted his children’s personal information to set up accounts and transfer hundreds of thousands of dollars, and then used the money from those accounts for luxury expenses including BMW car payments, mortgage payments on a large home and timeshare fees. When caught by the IRS, Baird then continued to lie and told IRS representatives that they were wrong about his extra income and additional bank accounts. \u00a0Click here to watch or read more information on IRS Back Taxes.<\/a><\/p>\n The Department of Justice and Internal Revenue Service found that Baird owed $573,000 in back taxes. When Baird agreed to a guilty plea in October 2016, he was told that after he finishes his prison sentence he must remain under supervision for a year and pay the IRS $573,422.74.<\/p>\n
