It\u2019s sad to see any business close<\/a>, and especially any business that has been around for 32 years. Fishmonger\u2019s in Brightleaf Square closed its doors in November, 2015 due to tax problems.<\/p>\n

The establishment gained fame for its menus of swordfish, Cajun catfish tenders, banana pudding, and other tasty delights that were famously scribble with a marker on a whiteboard.<\/span> Of course, people who frequent such places and remember them as the \u201cplace\u201d where people wanted to be shake their heads in awe that any such establishment could have closed for tax reasons.<\/p>\n

They shake their heads for good reason. Generally speaking, crowds and fame mean that business is respectable. Could it be that, somehow, there was a mismanagement of profits? The reality is that taxes weren\u2019t being paid. In fact, the owner was in previous hot water for not paying and things simply spiraled out of control until the establishment had to be shut down. When it happens, it\u2019s done rather abruptly. Table cloths and dishes and forks, still in place, makes it look as if the restaurant will open tomorrow morning. Taxes! What is it that makes successfully people, or anyone, want to avoid paying them?<\/p>\n
