Once again, a celebrity is in the news<\/a> for not having paid taxes. Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty<\/a> for tax evasion and not paying taxes in 2013, and probably 2014 as well.<\/a> He was a former NFL wide receiver. He did make an attempt to pay his taxes for 2013, and wired $47,900 to the IRS. Unfortunately, it didn\u2019t clear, which no doubt added to his woes. He had signed with the Pittsburg Steelers in 2013 for a single season for which his base salary was $940,000.<\/p>\n He also negotiated a signing bonus of $65,000 for that same year. The pressure is on and IRS officials gave him an opportunity to pay $65,000 before his probation period expires. Whether he makes the deadline is anyone\u2019s guess. The whole affair just underscores the importance of paying one\u2019s taxes on time, and in full.<\/span><\/p>\n People prove, time and time again that fame or talent is not indicator of common sense. It also raises the question of who was in charge of his finances. Did he have an honest accountant? Was he properly advised? Whatever the case, it\u2019s best to consult with a tax expert in these matters before things get totally out control.<\/p>\n
