Life can become a challenge<\/a> when they warn the public that their instructions and advice can\u2019t be relied on by \u201cJoe Taxpayer.\u201d As odd as it might sound, this is exactly what happened. It could be the ultimate \u201cCatch 22.\u201d That\u2019s because the instructions that the IRS provides aren\u2019t actually part of IRS law. \u00a0Click here to read or watch more IRS Help resources.<\/a><\/p>\n This means that you can get yourself into a sticky mess, claim that your position is justified be a particular set of tax instructions, and still lose your case.<\/span> This can happen even if your claim or explanation is found to be credible.<\/p>\n And to make matters worse, very few courts have the IRS to task when their own publications and instructions have been cited. The consumer usually loses his or her case. It\u2019s a little mind boggling when you consider that even toy manufacturers are held accountable for their toy\u2019s instructions. Many feel that it\u2019s absurd, and that the IRS should be held to the same high standards.<\/p>\n
