They&#039;re not. I&#039;m Darrin Mish. I&#039;ve been representing taxpayers before the IRS for 32 years. Let me explain how this actually works.<\/p>\n<p>Occasionally, people who try to scam others by pretending to be IRS agents, run into the wrong people.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"pullquote\">Such is the case when <a href=\"http:\/\/wbtw.com\/2015\/09\/15\/caught-on-tape-irs-scammer-calls-tax-professional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a scammer called an IRS agent\u2019s wife<\/a> and threatened to sue the real IRS agent if he didn\u2019t withdraw money from his bank account and pay. The real IRS agent threatened to report the scammer, who immediately hung up the phone. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>These scams are on the rise, and people are falling for them. The IRS continually tries to educate people to the fact the IRS will not call and ask for your telephone number.<\/p>\n<p>The IRS will only call if they have first reached out to an agency, and the IRS will never sue you. Of course. The IRS has its own collection methods, but they will not take you to court.<\/p>\n<p>Fear tactics cause people to make the wrong decision, and scammers can take advantage of this. Scammer are also sending bogus emails asking tax payers to update their information via email. The IRS won\u2019t require you to do this either.
