The tax fraud ring was responsible for filing 9,000, plus, fraudulent individual tax returns. The ring bilked the government for more than $24 million dollars before getting caught. Nearly $10 million in refunds was paid out by the IRS before the thieves were stopped. <\/span><\/p>\n The number of military personnel whose identities were stolen totaled 1500. Those responsible for the theft were sentenced. Crime doesn\u2019t pay rings true. However, criminals are always hard at work trying to figure out how they can snare their next victim.
