Former IRS official, Lois Lerner, is in hot water over released emails<\/a> in having called Republican critics \u201cevil and dishonest,\u201d and even \u201chateful.\u201d<\/p>\n Lerner used to head the IRS division that oversees processing applications for tax-exempt status<\/a>. The Senate Finance Committee released a report, Au-gust 6, which include Lerner\u2019s emails.<\/p>\n The report was bipartisan, and concluded that evidence was found that both the Obama administration\u2019s political agenda, along with the personal politics of certain IRS employees, had an impact on how the IRS performed its job, according to Sen, Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, chairman of the Finance Committee. The report called into question the alleged targeting of conservative groups that applied for tax-exempt status.<\/p>\n An executive summary determined that the IRS had systematically scrutinized the Tea Party along with other conservative organizations<\/a> in a manner that was different than how IRS tax-exempt applications were processed by left-leaning and nonpartisan organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n The IRS was scrutinized for having fostered an environment where political bias was believed to influence agency decisions. In May of 2013, Lerner apologized for what she termed an \u201cinappropriate\u2019 review of how conservative groups and their applications were reviewed.<\/p>\n The final executive summary stated that no evidence was found proving that Lerner\u2019s decisions or duties were affected by her political beliefs.<\/p>\n
