As a result, he was placed on the infamous non-football injury list while he served two years in prison. Specifically, the 37 year old wide receiver faces one count of issuing a bad electronic fund transfer, which is a third-degree felony in New Jersey. This is because under a newly added New Jersey law, insufficient e-payments to the state government are identical to bounced checks. Governor Chris Christie signed the bill into law in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>According to Assistant Prosecutor James Scott, Burress failed to respond to notices from the state&#8217;s Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services. This week, Burress appeared at court, pled not guilty and did not offer to pay his back taxes, which amount to $54,000. Due to the fact that Burress has a prior criminal record, Assistant Prosecutor Scott offered Burress a plea bargain, which calls for one year of jail and five years of probation.
