Saint Joseph School District is being investigated<\/a> by The Internal Revenue Service. The officials working in that school district have confirmed that the IRS<\/a> have sent their superintendent a letter requesting the district’s tax returns for the year 2013. An education official from that district stated that they will comply with this request. So they have scheduled the IRS examination<\/a> to occur between July 21 and July 24.<\/p>\n The IRS inquiry follows a number of resignations by school district officials. In May, Dr. Fred Czerwonka – school district superintendent – and Dr. Dan Colgan – school district board member – have resigned after a February’s state audit pointed out lots of problems.<\/a><\/p>\n The state audit has found problems with the district’s system of giving out stipends without authorization of its board members and the overall system of oversight. The amount of unauthorized stipends was found to be $25 million over eight years.<\/span> The purchasing policies of the school district were also called into question. Overall, the audit pointed out 17 areas of concern and rated district’s performance as “poor”.<\/p>\n The problems found by this state audit were an addition to another big scandal. Under the helm of superintendent Dr. Czerwonka, the school district suffered the most expensive wrongful termination lawsuit that has cost the district $450,000.<\/p>\n IRS investigation is not the only problem facing the St. Joseph Board of Education. FBI and federal grand jury are also investigating this school district for possible violations of federal law. Nothing is known about the results of these two investigations so far.<\/p>\n
