Knowledge is protection when the IRS is involved. I'm Darrin Mish, a tax attorney in Tampa with 32 years of experience representing taxpayers nationwide. Here's what I want you to understand.<\/p>\n

Republicans in the House have proposed cutting $838 million from the IRS by October 1<\/a>, which marks the start of the 2016 fiscal year. The cuts would be more than twice what the agency experienced in 2015.<\/p>\n

Under the proposal, the IRS would receive $10.1 billion to continue its core operations. This amount is less than both Congressional levels set 12 years ago and its sequester limit.<\/span> The plan would also present a challenge to the Obama administration on the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate, free speech and the FCC’s plan to implement net neutrality. In addition, the bill would provide protection for certain taxpayers who were targeted regarding First Amendment issues.<\/p>\n

In the FCC’s case, The GOP would restrict funding to $315 million, which would put it $73 million below what President Obama proposed and $25 million under its current funding level. The reductions are meant to limit what the FCC can do in regard to net neutrality, forcing it to wait on implementation while specific legal cases go through the courts. <\/p>\n

The bill would also provide money for the General Services Administration, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Small Businesses Administration. More notably, the proposal seeks to restrict Obama’s attempts to improve the country’s relationship with Cuba through disallowing student travel that does not involve a degree and prohibiting confiscated property imports and financial dealings with Cuban officials.<\/p>\n

As a footnote, the bill seeks to limit federal and local funds for legalized marijuana legislation and abortion services.<\/p>\n
