After 32 years of IRS work \u2014 and more than $100 million in resolved tax debt \u2014 I've seen just about every version of the problem you're dealing with. I'm Darrin Mish, a tax attorney in Tampa. Here's what you should know.<\/p>\n

In the wake of the theft\u00a0of about 100,000 taxpayers’ details, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told the\u00a0Senate Finance Committee that the agency is unable to keep up with increasingly sophisticated methods employed by identity thieves. \u00a0 The thieves hacked the “Get Transcript” application in the IRS website, www.irs.gov. \u00a0According to Koskinen, the hacking of the IRS website appeared to be the work of an international crime syndicate.<\/p>\n

Koskinen said, “What worked yesterday, what worked a year ago may not be working anymore today, so you continually have to attack that problem.”<\/p>\n
