Online retail giant, Amazon.com announced last Friday that it will begin collecting sales tax from Ohioans who make online purchases starting today. \u00a0During a press conference at the Statehouse, Governor John Kasich, Amazon’s VP of global public policy Paul Misener and John Minor, Jobs-Ohio Chief Investment Officer gave details of new facilities and data centers that are aimed at supporting Amazon’s\u00a0US network.<\/p>\n
As it stands, Ohio residents are already required to pay sales tax on all purchases made from out-of-state and online retailers. \u00a0Gary Gudmundson, the Ohio State Taxation Department’s spokesman said that Ohioans filed about 5.4 million tax returns last year.
