The case of two NYPD police officers who were shot at close range and murdered in cold blood on Dec 20 last year are now under the Slain Officer Family Support Act of 2015. \u00a0On that fateful day, a lone gunman, Ismaaiyl Brinkley walked up to the patrol car where the two officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were seated and shot them, killing both men. \u00a0Officers Ramos and Liu had served in the police force for two\u00a0and seven years respectively. \u00a0Both were married. \u00a0Officer Ramos had two sons.<\/p>\n
In view of this gruesome incident, the IRS has announced that all contributions to the charities set up for the families of these two officers made between January 1 and April 15 this year will be eligible for tax deductions for the year 2014. \u00a0However, if you prefer to allocate your contribution to this year’s taxes, you may do so as well. \u00a0Obviously, the deduction can only be claimed\u00a0once\u00a0and not for both years.<\/p>\n
