  6. Over-the-top tax refund<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Here are the final 6 of the IRS\u2019 Dirty Dozen tax scams:<\/a><\/p>\n

    1. Bogus charities<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      There are organizations that masquerade as charities seeking donations.\u00a0 Be on your guard against them.\u00a0 They sometimes use names of well-known major organizations to try to dupe you into thinking they are legitimate.\u00a0 If you are unsure of the legitimacy of any charity, contact the IRS.\u00a0 They have a list of bona fide charitable organizations that are eligible to receive tax-exempt donations.<\/p>\n

      1. Falsifying documents<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        If you come across any tax preparer that suggests you falsify tax documents to cut down on your taxes, do not take their advice.\u00a0 And don\u2019t you even consider doing it yourself.\u00a0 The IRS has ways to detect fraudulent tax forms, so don\u2019t try this.<\/p>\n

        1. Fraudulent claims for Fuel Tax credit<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          The fuel tax credit is for those who use their business vehicles for off-highway business use including for farming.\u00a0 As such, this credit is not for most taxpayers to claim.\u00a0 But many unscrupulous tax preparers advice their clients to claim for this credit although they are not eligible for it.\u00a0 Do not get sucked in to this scam.<\/p>\n

          1. Frivolous arguments on taxes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Did you know that you may be liable to a $5,000 penalty if you are convicted of filing a frivolous tax claim?\u00a0 So if you are tempted to make any frivolous argument just to save a few bucks on your taxes.\u00a0 It\u2019s not worth it.\u00a0 You might be slapped with a hefty fine for doing so.\u00a0 What is frivolous and what is not?\u00a0 Generally, if you don\u2019t think you have a good chance of winning your claim, it\u2019s probably frivolous.\u00a0 If you feel you have a legitimate claim and are not sure what to do, the best move is to consult a tax attorney<\/a>.\u00a0 Call us at (813) 229-7100 for a no-cost consultation.<\/p>\n

            1. Illegitimate tax avoidance schemes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
