Are there roughly 10,000 IRS agents but only two dozen or so people working on violent extremism? Well, for sure there are a large number of IRS agents, but their job is not just making sure that Americans aren’t just trying to take an improper tax deduction for charity. The crux of the argument could be that we have underutilized manpower at our disposal. After all, violent extremists may make as many as 200,000 social media posts per day.
The term used is that they’re operating at the speed of broadband, while America is operating at the speed of bureaucracy. The critics may have a valid point! Many people believe that this country has untapped sources to fight terrorism, and that their skills could be better utilized.
On a note, no one seems to be asking why aren’t those companies who’ve created social media hubs, or even the Internet, lending a bigger hand in the fight against terrorism? Sooner or later, everyone will have to pitch in to make things more secure and safe. Things always move forward, even when they seem to be moving backward. Perhaps the assessment of how many are fighting extremists is off, but at least it gets everyone thinking in the right direction.
